After his wife dies in a tragic accident, astronaut Jeff Tracy is left with five young sons to raise. But he turns his grief into a dream: to create an organization which will rescue people that no one else can reach. He builds a business which creates the new technology that the organization will require and earns the billions he needs to finance it. At last, he is ready to put it all together. He enlists the services of a genius to design aircraft and supporting machinery far beyond the standards of his time. Together, they find a Pacific island to use as the base for their operations. Jeff asks his five sons, now grown, to give up promising careers to build the base, operate the machines, and serve in his organization. But he finds that in order to make his dream a reality, it will require sacrifice, courage, and determination...far beyond what he, or his sons, ever expected. Can they make International Rescue a reality, and what will it take to make the fantastic Thunderbird machines go?

My Thoughts:

This was the first time I have been introduced to the ‘Thunderbirds’. I understand they are based of the British 60’s show “Thunderbirds are go”. As I was reading, I really enjoyed the depth, detail and action as it unfolded.
The story was well done and truly full of imagination for me as I was able to fully visualize the island as well as their rescue vehicles. I found I was unable to set it down when I started, and it was a quick read. I am looking forward to sharing this set with my son when he is a few years older as I know he will enjoy it. Recommend for anyone that enjoyed the ‘Thunderbirds’ show or movie, as well as those whom enjoy a fast-paced science fiction for young readers and adults alike.

Action Alert! (Thunderbirds)

All the Tracy’s are dedicated men of action, and Scott Tracy is no exception! The eldest of Jeff Tracy's sons, Scott pilots the rocket-reconnaissance aircraft, Thunderbird 1. First to arrive at any disaster scene, he evaluates the situation and coordinates the team's rescue strategy on site. Due to the importance of Thunderbird 1 to International Rescue's operation, Scott is present for nearly every rescue mission. Nonetheless, even Scott has his limitations, and in Action Alert, he stretches himself to those very limits. Can he do so without consequences to himself and International Rescue?

My Thoughts:

This was just as fun as ‘Countdown to Action!’ and like the titles states, it was indeed full of action as International Rescue utilized all five of their special machines. The story again, was fast-paced and held my interest as events unfolded. The details were spot-on with the action of the machines, the characters and even of the rescue situations where the Tracy’s were assisting. Always enjoy it when there is a ‘bad guy’ to be apprehended or beaten. It was nice to have the focus of Scott, as the reader learns more of his mind while he’s on missions or just trying to relax in between them. I was very happy to have this one available to me after reading the first in this series as I jumped into it right away.

Deadly Danger! (Thunderbirds)

Jeff Tracy, his five sons, and their associates run an organization called International Rescue, which helps people beyond the aid of the usual first responders. Virgil Tracy, the second of Jeff Tracy's sons, pilots the heavy-rescue craft, Thunderbird 2, which carries the specialized rescue equipment to the danger zone. In addition to his expertise as a pilot and engineer, Virgil is also a talented pianist and artist. Virgil's calm disposition serves him well in the extreme hazards that he faces as a member of International Rescue. In Deadly Danger, Virgil will have to draw on all of these skills to meet the challenges he faces: a California wildfire, a mine disaster in South Africa, a volcano eruption in the Pacific, an airliner in trouble, a town in Peru in danger of vanishing into a sinkhole, a bridge collapse in India, explorers in danger of grinding ice in the Antarctic. Most of all Virgil and his brothers and associates must find a warped genius who will stop at nothing to build and deploy a fleet of advanced machines to prove he is the greatest rocket scientist of the 2060s.

My Thoughts:

After reading the first two books in this set (Countdown to Action, Action Alert), I began to notice a pattern. So far, we are being introduced to the Tracy men one by one. This book had more intense moments of rescues that coincided with the ‘warped genius’ and his antics on gathering what he needed for his own plans.
Joan has again mastered the suspense, drama and action-packed adventure to keep the reader wanting more. I was rather upset when the story ended. Even if this book was randomly selected to read, I think it would be enjoyable and one would be able to know the set up behind it, but with any good series I recommend starting at the beginning to have the familiarity to the roots of it.

As the reader continues in this series, I know I for one, became familiar with the Tracy’s and their International Rescue teammates. I enjoyed the banter shared with the brothers as well as the practical jokes they liked to play on each other. It is a very positive portrayal of a family sharing a bond that is not easily broken, especially when surrounded by each other day and night, as well as residing on a secret tropical island away from everyone. I hope Joan plans to write more on this fun series, and now from my reading, I want to watch the show and share it with my small son.

My Thoughts: (Full Review found at my FB Group Page)

Wow- here is a fiction novel that has it all: Murder, Mystery, Suspense, Action, Fantasy and a bit of magic thrown in to make it a very engaging read!  For me, the story took on a ‘life’ of its own as it seamlessly and vividly played out in my mind while reading. The action on the seas is amazing, and does not leave for a dull moment. For a tale that involves more than one storyline, this was superbly completed to weave the events together. I am very anxious for the next two books as I have been told by the author that she plans to make this a trilogy. I am so excited to go back on this journey!
